Resources

The Department of Architecture offers many facilities to its students. This section reviews the details of all facilities including studios, teaching spaces and equipment, workshops, computers laboratories, resource centers, library, and staff accommodation. 

 

1. Studios

There are four studios (drawing halls), one for each year.

- Location & area

- Two studios at the third floor (for first and second years’ students) with Area=497 m2 for each.

- One studio at the fourth floor (for third year’s students) with Area = 915 m2

- One studio at the sixth floor (for fourth year’s students) with Area = 915 m2

- Opening hours 

- From 08:00am to 17:00pm each day (except Saturdays & Fridays)

- When students have to submit their final projects, studios are open upon a written request to ensure safety during late hours.

 

 

 

 

2. Lecture Halls

There are three main lecture halls in the department building, each one has an area of 240 m2 and can seat up to 306 students in addition to a smaller lecture hall (area 165m2) on the 5th floor. Besides, 4 seminar halls are existed on 4th, 5th and 6th floors.

- Location & area

- One at the third floor (for first and second year’s students) with Area = 240 m2

- One at the fourth floor (for third year’s students) with Area = 240 m2

- One at the sixth floor (for fourth year’s students) with Area = 240 m2

(n.b: they are all used for postgraduate programs’ lectures as well after 2 pm)

- Opening hours

According to the lectures schedule, mainly from 8:30 until 15:30 and until 20:00 for postgraduate courses.

- Number of dedicated spaces for each level of course 

- One lecture hall for both first and second level of course.

- One lecture hall for each third level course and another hall for fourth level of course (as described above).

- Other education spaces (Seminar halls)

- There is a main seminar hall dedicated for guest speakers and thesis defense on the fifth floor. Its area is 165 m2 (for 60-70 students).

- There are three smaller seminar rooms at the fourth and sixth floor (each has an area of 80 m2 for (30 students).

 

 

3. Library

There is one library for architecture in the department building, It is to mention that there is also a main library located on the main campus of Cairo University, and, a library for the Faculty of Engineering. The department of architecture is one of 2 departments that own a specialized library for their students.

Fifth Floor, department of architecture building with Area = 260 m2

- Opening hours

- During semesters: From 9:00am to 17:00pm each day (except Saturdays & Fridays)

- Other days: From 9:00am to 15:00pm each day (except Saturdays & Fridays)

 

 

4. Laboratories

There are two specialized laboratories

- Location & area

- One environmental studies laboratory at the fifth floor with Area = 160 m2

- One planning laboratory at the fifth floor with Area = 47 m2

 

5. Information Resources: IT and AV Facilities

There are four computer labs; three in the department of architecture building and one outside the building.

- Location & area

- Labs (1) & (2) are at the fifth floor with Area = 160 m2 each

- Lab (3) is part of the environmental studies lab located at the fifth floor with Area = 120 m2

- Lab (4) ‘digital computers lab’ is located in building no. 1 (structural engineering building) within the campus with Area = 120 m2,

- Opening hours

- From 9:00am to 15:00pm each day (except Saturdays & Fridays)

- From 9:00am to 19:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays (for AET lectures).
